ATV's On Single Track Trails

Vedder Mountain Trails and ATV’s

ATV's.....where do these vehicles fit in to the future of recreational trail use on Vedder Mountain? ATV riding is exploding in popularity.  We are seeing more of these fun and versatile vehicles on Vedder Mountain all the time.  Unfortunately, almost all of the single track trails that exist here were never built with ATV’s in mind (motorbikes, bicycles, 2210-mudding-around-stuck-atvSingletrack/No ATV trails, horses and foot traffic only).  These purpose-built trails cannot sustain ATV usage.  ATV’s are suited to the old logging grades (ie. Tower Road) only.  We are having ongoing problems with ATVs trying to enter “signed”, restricted use/access trails all over the mountain. ATVBC does not condone this activity, and is working with VMTA to supply signage to mark non-ATV trails.  The Chipmunk Creek area is much better suited for ATV usage with many purpose-built and well suited terrain for these vehicles.

Fines and charges can be laid by MOF Conservation & Enforcement Officers for infractions.  Please report any ATVs trying to access Singletrack trails immediately to the VMTA President, get license #'s if possible to identify offenders for investigation and prosecution."

Thanks!!!

David Lock, VMTA President
